A mixed chart is read by asking which relationship is causally central to the actual question. Start with the Day Master, season and capacity; then identify the relation that can Dominate the situation, trace which relations pull it toward expression or blockage, and check whether repeated signs are duplicate evidence or separate channels. A chart with Wealth, Officer, Output and Resource is not four personality types added together. The leading thread can change when the question changes. Combination judgment is therefore conditional: name the chain, explain its dependencies and state what would make it stronger, weaker or unavailable in real life.

The Day Master is the reference point for Ten Gods, not a decorative label. Read the Year, Month, Day and Hour pillars as different contexts—inheritance and public setting, seasonal and institutional environment, self and close relationship, then later output or future projects—without turning those contexts into rigid fate zones. Dominate means the relationship with the greatest explanatory leverage for this question; it does not mean the most frequent character. Pull describes how a stem, branch, hidden stem, combination or clash redirects attention or capacity. Record the actual pillar evidence before interpreting the chain.

Month command sets the starting climate and affects whether a relation can be received, produced or carried. A spring chart may make Wood and its Wealth themes visible, but that does not prove Wealth dominates every question. Check whether the Day Master has roots, whether support reaches it, and whether heat, cold, dryness, dampness, compression or dispersion changes the mechanism. If a combination needs a channel that the season does not provide, describe it as potential rather than an active result. Do not import seasonal strength into a topic where it has no functional effect.

Map revealed and hidden stems, roots, generating and controlling routes, combinations, clashes, harms and transformations. Then ask what each relation does to the next one. Output may convert pressure into a message or may drain capacity; Wealth may turn a skill into exchange but also add delivery obligations; Officer may supply standards while increasing scrutiny; Resource may provide training while delaying release. A combination can pull two forces into cooperation, but a formal combination does not guarantee transformation. Check whether the chart has a usable channel, and do not count the same stem and its hidden root as two unrelated causes.

Pattern, Use God, Xi Shen and Ji Shen can help organize a mixed reading, but they should not be used as a ranking shortcut. First describe the observable structure and the bottleneck. Then explain which route the selected school treats as primary and which relations support, compete with or redirect it. A Pattern label is not permission to ignore a conflicting root, season or real constraint. Use God is a functional hypothesis for the question, not the most attractive Ten God. If the evidence is split between two routes, preserve the uncertainty instead of forcing one winner.

The natal chart supplies the configuration, while Da Yun and Liu Nian can expose a hidden stem, strengthen a root, open a channel, add pressure or make a combination costly. Read the time layer against the natal chain. A year that brings Output may allow a plan to be published, but it can also drain a weak Day Master; a year that brings Officer may clarify a license requirement or simply increase scrutiny. Do not declare an event from one arriving Ten God. State what is being activated, what capacity is required and which dated observation would support the interpretation.

Consider a fictional chart: Jia-Shen year, Bing-Yin month, Xin-Hai day and Ding-You hour. Step one: Xin Metal is the Day Master. Step two: Yin month gives a spring Wood context; Jia and the hidden Wood in Yin/Hai make Wealth visible, while Bing and Ding place Officer pressure in the chart. Step three: Shen and You provide Metal roots, and Hai carries Output; the chart therefore contains exchange, standards, expression and self-support at once. For a question about launching a regulated consulting service, the Dominate thread is not “Wealth because there is Wood.” The working chain is pressure and standards -> trained output -> accountable exchange. Officer can pull the reading toward licensing and deadlines; Output can relieve pressure only if it is completed; Wealth becomes evidence of a contract, not proof of money. The Yin-Hai combination may pull attention toward Wood, but transformation must be demonstrated. In a Bing-Wu year, test whether new authority brings a usable license and delivery schedule or only more scrutiny. Check documents, completed work, client scope and recovery before naming success.

The same mixed chart can produce a different useful reading in another container. In a public-sector role with a clear supervisor, Officer may Dominate because standards and permission determine whether output can be used. For an independent writer with no stable contract, Output may be the main bottleneck and Wealth only a later exchange channel. The chart has not magically changed; the question, age, institution, resources and choices changed which link has leverage. A person with strong support can carry a demanding Officer chain, while someone exhausted may experience the same relation as pressure. Never convert one scenario into a universal career or relationship verdict.

Common errors include counting characters instead of functions, treating duplicate evidence as two independent causes, declaring every combination transformed, reading one Ten God without its target, or letting Shen Sha override the Four Pillars. Verify in order: calendar and pillars; Day Master; Month command and capacity; roots and Ten Gods; the candidate Dominate relation; pulls and conversion paths; Pattern or Use God if justified; timing; then dated reality. Record the question, the predicted mechanism, the required capacity and the observable result. Suppose a fictional chart has Peer Stars supporting the day master, Output connecting to Wealth, and Officer pressure arriving in the current period. Read the chain in order: support creates capacity, output becomes a skill or product, Wealth tests resource handling, and Officer adds rules or responsibility. The result is a conditional work hypothesis, not a guaranteed promotion.
