Why cannot Ziwei Dou Shu be read from only one palace?

What Are Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses?

Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses place one palace inside a support, containment, and external-scene structure. The network changes how a single palace result is interpreted; it does not make every connection equally important or turn a chart into noise.

Direct answer: a palace is an entry point, not the whole conclusion

Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses place a palace inside a structure of support, containment, and external scenes. The palace you start with names the question and the life field. Its Three Parties show related resources or channels that help the question develop; its opposite palace shows an encounter, mirror, pressure, or external condition that can expose the limit of the starting palace. The palace network is therefore a reasoning tool, not a list of every palace in the chart. A strong reading states which connection changes the conclusion and why. It does not call a person lucky, difficult, or doomed because one palace contains one star.

Palace layer: define the field before following the network

Start with the object of the question: work role, money management, partnership, home, movement, health support, or another concrete field. The Life palace may frame agency, the Career palace role and public responsibility, the Wealth palace resources and conversion, and the opposite palace a condition that tests the field. These are domains, not personality labels. If the question is about a job change, do not let a dramatic star in a distant palace replace the actual work, skills, contract, market, or consent conditions. The network has meaning only after the field is named.

Star layer: stars show how each position expresses its role

Main stars provide an operating style or capacity; auxiliary and difficult stars add tools, friction, timing sensitivity, or cost. The same star can support coordination in one palace and create rigidity in another because the object differs. Do not read the network as “more stars equals more good.” Ask what each position can do, what it cannot do, what evidence would show it working, and what safeguard is needed if it fails. A palace network distributes functions; it does not multiply a single star’s meaning into a fixed fate.

Network mechanics: support, containment, and external scene are different

Use three questions to keep Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses precise. Which connected palace supplies a resource or skill? Which one contains a risk through a rule, limit, or responsibility? Which one represents the outside scene where the result is tested? A support palace may provide people or money but also create dependency. A containing palace may limit speed but protect continuity. An external scene may bring an audience, deadline, market, or conflict. Name the function instead of saying that the whole network “affects everything.”

Opposite palace: mirror and pressure, not automatic bad luck

The opposite palace is important because it shows a direct counter-position or encounter. It can mirror what the starting palace lacks, expose a cost, bring an external party, or force a negotiation. It is not automatically hostile. A Career palace read with its opposite may show how public role meets home, partnership, or another receiving field in the selected chart; the exact field depends on the palace pair and school. Explain the connection used, the pressure it creates, and the behaviour that would resolve it. Do not use “opposite” as a synonym for bad.

Four Transformations: flow selects a route through the network

If the school uses Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke, and Hua Ji, trace the source star, transformation, destination palace, and domain through the network. The flow may highlight access, authority, recognition, obligation, friction, correction, or repair. Hua Lu does not make every connected palace beneficial, Hua Quan does not make the destination controllable, Hua Ke does not guarantee approval, and Hua Ji does not make the network doomed. If the transformation rule is not relevant to the question, do not add it merely to make the diagram sound sophisticated.

Natal pattern and timing: the network is activated by a question and a stage

The natal network can show which fields repeatedly exchange resources, pressure, visibility, or responsibility. A major cycle may activate one link through a new job, funding decision, move, partnership, or family duty. An annual layer may time a deadline, public response, contract, conflict, or review. The stage does not turn the whole network into permanent fate. It narrows which connection to observe and what evidence can confirm whether support, containment, or external pressure actually mattered.

Worked case: a public library weighs a new mobile service

Imagine a fictional chart where the Career palace holds the main delivery line, the Wealth palace supplies budget, the Property palace contains equipment and continuity, and the opposite palace represents the home or partner field that absorbs the schedule cost. In this selected palace network, Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses link Career to Wealth and Property; Migration adds an external audience. During a major cycle, Hua Quan from Career reaches Wealth. A public library considers a mobile learning service. Career asks who delivers and what outcome counts; Wealth tests fuel, staffing, and maintenance; Property tests storage and service continuity; the opposite field tests whether evenings and caregiving are being assumed without agreement; Migration tests public demand; Hua Quan makes budget authority visible. The action is a six-week pilot, published service limits, a maintenance reserve, a partner schedule, and a review date. The network changes the decision from “Career star is strong” to a testable operating plan.

Contrast: the same palace network can support or expose a weak plan

A Career–Wealth link with clear pricing and reserves can turn ambition into delivery; the same link without cash controls can turn expansion into debt. A Career–Property link with maintenance capacity can protect continuity; without it, public promises expose a fragile base. An opposite-palace encounter with explicit agreement can coordinate home and work; without consent, it can become a hidden burden. The difference is not a lucky network versus an unlucky network but function, capacity, authority, agreement, and evidence.

Misreads to reject

Do not treat Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses as a request to mention every palace, or the opposite palace as automatic harm. Do not let a single star, empty palace, transformation, or connection predict wealth, marriage, health, death, safety, or success. Do not confuse a network map with proof that every field causes every other field. A professional reading names the relevant link, its mechanism, its condition, its counterexample, and its practical test.

Verification, action, and boundary

Record the question, school, starting palace, main line, Three Parties and Four Uprightnesses, opposite palace, connected palaces, stars and modifiers, Four Transformations, natal and time layers, support, containment, external scene, capacity, authority, agreement, risk, observable evidence, counterexample, action, stop condition, and review date. Test with a resource map, responsibility matrix, budget, schedule, consent check, pilot, maintenance plan, or escalation rule. Ziwei cannot guarantee wealth, marriage, health, death, danger, safety, or success, and cannot replace medical, legal, financial, therapeutic, workplace, or emergency support. The relevant network and real-world evidence outrank decorative complexity.
